Nikos Kazantzakis Heraklion Airport (HER): Approximate driving time is 80 minutes and distance is 110 kilometres (80 miles).
Both taxis and buses can be found right outside the airport. Typical taxi fare should be €4–5 to Heraklion city; agree fare beforehand. The KTEL bus runs direct from Heraklion to Ierapetra; the journey takes two hours and 30 minutes and costs around €9. Buses run from Heraklion in the mornings only.
Driving directions: On leaving the airport, follow signs for the city of Heraklion. On arrival there, follow signs to Agios Nicolaos. Before reaching Agios Nicolaos, turn right, following the sign to Ierapetra. At the first traffic light, turn left towards Siti. From Koutsounari, follow the signs to the resort.
The best way to get around Crete is by rental car or bike, although buses go to most places throughout the island. The Cretan bus company KTEL has stations in all the larger cities and stops all along the routes. Many locations are also accessible by ferry and boat taxi. Taxies in Crete are reasonable but visitors should make sure the driver uses the meter.
